End bear bile farming, forever

Bear bile extraction is one of the worst forms of animal abuse in the world.

Right now, 147 bears in Vietnam are still trapped in tiny cages on bear bile farms. They are living a life of misery, hidden away in dark rooms.

We need your help. Donate today to help save the last bile bears.

These bears are deprived of natural sunlight, water, and are often fed rotten eggs and scraps. They often bash their heads on their cage and break their teeth from biting the metal bars. But YOU have the power to help save these thinking, feeling beings from a lifetime of cruelty.

Will you help protect the last 147 bile bears and bring the illegal bile trade in Vietnam to an end?

Na was abused for more than 20 years

Na was trapped in a tiny, metal cage with barely any sunlight or fresh air for over two decades. She couldn’t escape from having large needles repeatedly plunged into her abdomen to extract her bile.

Alone, terrified and forgotten. Her spirit was completely broken. Broken teeth, lost fur, her body was on the brink of giving up from the abuse until animal lovers like YOU stepped in and changed her story forever.

Don’t let another bear be left behind

Bear bile farming is illegal in Vietnam. But loopholes in the law allow owners to keep bears like Na as so‑called “pets”. In reality, many bears still suffer illegal bile extraction.

Right now, your donation could help save them from their dark, cold cages.

Will you help protect the last 147 bears and bring illegal bile farming to an end forever?

YOUR help will mean bears are not facing this cruelty alone

Your lifesaving gift will help to:

  • MONITOR: Watch over the bears to spot signs of bile extraction
Phuong and his team return to bear farms again and again, checking each bear for signs of illegal bile extraction and ensuring no bear disappears unnoticed.
  • PROTECT: Expose abuse and trigger action
When illegal activity is uncovered, bears can be confiscated by the authorities and sent to sanctuary care. Your support helps make sure cruelty cannot stay hidden behind closed doors.
  • END: Shut down the illegal bile trade in Vietnam. Forever.
The illegal bear bile trade survives in secrecy. Regular monitoring removes that cover. When bears are always accounted for, pressure builds, farmers surrender bears, and this cruel trade loses its power to continue.

But this simply can’t happen without YOU. Please donate today to protect the final 147 bile bears and end the illegal bear bile trade in Vietnam. If we can't watch over them, they may remain trapped, forever.

Some of the bears shown on this page are Cam, Chinh and Na. World Animal Protection, together with local partners FOUR PAWS, Education for Nature Vietnam (ENV), and the local authorities, negotiated their release, and secured them a forever home at the FOUR PAWS sanctuary in Ninh Binh.
