Orangutans are broken long before they enter the boxing ring

Orangutans forced to perform in entertainment suffer immense cruelty from the moment they are torn from their mothers’ arms as infants.

Orangutans have an intense bond with their mothers. Even after their death, babies will desperately hold on to their mothers – sometimes so tightly that poachers have to use machetes to cut them loose and prise them away.

Horrifically, rescued orangutans have been found with missing fingers and even whole limbs. Once in captivity, the pain doesn’t stop. In many cases, their captors lock them into tiny cages and starve and beat them until they learn how to perform tricks and “fight” in the boxing ring.

Our partner in Indonesia, the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) is working tirelessly to rescue orangutans from the cruel entertainment industry. But some of these animals are so sick and traumatised by years of abuse, that they will never be able to live in the wild again.

You can help secure a new home in Borneo, where traumatised orangutans could live out their days in safety and peace, with all the care and comfort they need. Your gift could help orangutans and other vulnerable animals around the world.

Please donate today.

$28 could help keep orangutans healthy by providing vitamins and supplements for a week.

$58 could help ensure orangutans are looked after, paying for a dedicated carer for a week.

$128 could help secure a new, safe forest home for traumatised orangutans and contribute to running costs.

Where your money goes

World Animal Protection has been protecting animals for over 50 years and we passionately believe that animals matter. With your support, we’ll go where animal suffering is most far-reaching and animal cruelty is most severe.

In 2015, 87% of funds raised went towards protecting animals in our four areas of work. We can ensure your vital donation is making the biggest impact for animals as possible and is helping achieve lasting change.
