Wild animal entertainment is abuse. Let’s end it.
Pang Dow’s name means “lucky star”. And yet, in Thailand, elephants like Pang Dow are stolen from their mothers as babies. Then, to make them accept rides and other human contact, they are restrained, starved and beaten into submission in a brutal training process known as “the crush”.
This trauma can last for a lifetime, leaving some elephants suffering post-traumatic stress. Every animal deserves a life without cruelty and suffering. One with the freedom to express their natural behaviour without fear. Together, we can give them that life.
With your help, World Animal Protection is working with tour operators to stop offering elephant rides and shows and promote elephant- friendly tourism instead. When the demand ends, so will the abuse.
For Pang Dow, life has turned around. She was rescued by our partner, Boon Lott’s Elephant Sanctuary, where she receives proper care and roams the forest in peace with other elephants.
But more elephants in entertainment still desperately need your help to stamp out the abuse. Together, we can change elephants’ lives for good. And we must, because a life of pain and suffering is no life at all.
Will you join us, and help give elephants lives worth living?

Where your money goes
World Animal Protection has been protecting animals for over 50 years and we passionately believe that animals matter. With your support, we’ll go where animal suffering is most far reaching and animal cruelty is most severe.
In 2017, 84% of funds raised went towards protecting animals in our four areas of work. We strive to ensure your vital donations make the largest impact for animals and help achieve lasting change.
